All About Orthodontics for Kids and Teens

We are often asked when is the right time for parents to bring their child in for an orthodontic consultation. Sometimes early treatment is needed, while in other cases we may recommend you return in a year or so when more teeth have come through.

According to the Australian Society of Orthodontists, some of the indicators that your child may need early treatment (age 7-10 years) are:

  • Your child has trouble biting or chewing
  • There is an underbite or overbite
  • Mouth-breathing
  • Protruding teeth
  • Thumb-sucking after age 5 years
  • Early, late or irregular loss of baby teeth
  • Crowded, crooked or misplaced teeth
  • Jaws/teeth out of proportion
